Sandra K. Johnson, 81, of Portsmouth, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023, at SOMC Hospice Center. Sandy was born July 24, 1941, in Garrison, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Oscar "Bud" and Selma Waneda Scott. She is also preceded in death by her late husband, John S. Johnson of Portsmouth. They were married for 53 years.

She was a 1959 graduate of Lewis County High School and earned a Bachelor of Education from Morehead State University.

Sandy was owner/educator of Johnson's Nursery School for over 20 years and loved her time working with children and getting to know area families. She also was the owner of Johnson's Restaurant with her husband, John.

She loved to travel to different countries and was able sail on countless cruises with her friends and family.

Sandy is survived by three daughters, Michelle (Steve) Sprunger of Cincinnati,OH,

Jill (Jim) Kolar of Wheelersburg, OH, and Nicole (Jacob Rouse) Johnson of Wheelersburg,OH; two granddaughters, Sofia Zulli of Nashville, TN and Maren Sprunger of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws; Ruth (Bill) Platt of Garrison, Ky and Marilyn Houston, of Ponte Vedra, FL.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sandy was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbra Welch and brother, Tim Scott, both of Garrison, Kentucky.

Sandy's family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Randall Residence for the loving care for Sandy and becoming her second family for almost 4 years. They also would like to thank the SOMC Hospice Center for their care and compassion.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
