It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Howard, a beloved husband, devoted friend, and cherished member of the McDermott community. Rick was born on June 5, 1969, in Portsmouth, Ohio, and he left us peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 55.

Rick lived a life filled with passion and interests that defined his lively spirit. A dedicated Technical Engineer in the Maintenance/Food Industry, he approached his work with the same enthusiasm that he brought to every aspect of his life. While he took great pride in his career, it was his love for drawing and collecting comic books that truly showcased his creative side. "The Hulk" held a special place in his heart, embodying Rick's own strength and resilience.

Rick was an accomplished author who published two childrens books, Billy and Baxter Adventures and Buttons for Boots.

An avid outdoorsman, Rick cherished the time that he spent in nature, whether it was hunting, shooting, or fishing. These moments brought him joy and peace, and he often shared them with friends and family, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hughes and Goldie Howard, and his grandparents that raised him, William and Rettie (Nee Blair) Howard.

Rick leaves behind his loving spouse, Tonya (Nee Sparks) Howard of Portsmouth, together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and adventure. They were blessed with three loving sons: Rikki (Mycheala Whitmore) Howard of Willard, OH, Alex (Tabitha) Howard of Lucasville, and Eric Howard of West Portsmouth, six grandchildren: Elizabeth Howard of NC, Allyson Howard of West Portsmouth, Emily Howard, Micah Carroll, Rylee Howard and Nova Howard, all of Willard, OH, one brother, Richard "Jason" Hughes of OR and one sister, Rebecca (Calvin) Flack of GA, and two cousins Jack (Becky) Hayes of Wheelersburg, and Eddie Killen of Lucasville, all who will continue to carry his spirit with them.

As we remember Rick, let us celebrate the memories he created and the lives he touched. His kindness, love, and passion for life will forever be in our hearts.
