It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of John Landon Ray Mitchell, who embraced life from October 19, 1950, until his unexpected passing, January 30, 2025. Born in Charlotte, NC, John found his journey taking root in Wheelersburg, OH, where he cultivated not just gardens but a life rich in love and family.
John was a devoted husband to Elizabeth (Nee Dillard) Mitchell, sharing a remarkable fifty-four years of love, companionship, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, and their love flourished to foster a family that will carry forth his legacy. He was a proud father to Emily (John) Faling and Crystal (Rob) Rawlins, and a cherished grandfather to Liam, Chris, Case, River, Maddy, and Bella. The joy of his life also extended to his two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons, who brought boundless happiness to his heart.
A steadfast presence, John found solace in the embrace of nature. Through his passion for gardening, he nurtured not only plants but the bonds of family around him, relishing the simple beauty that each day offered. He taught his loved ones that life's richness comes from the love we share and the memories we create.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Eva Pauline (Nee Plyer) Mitchell.
As we reflect on John's life, we hold close his words: "The best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been, and the memories we've made along the way." His memory will forever dwell in the hearts of all who knew him, reminding us of the beauty of family, the joy of nature, and the love that binds us together.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made directly to FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662, (740) 353-4146, or online at www.fcdaehlermortuary.com, where you may also leave a special memory of John or condolences for his family.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and deep love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
