James Philip Layton, 87 years old, resident of Portsmouth, OH passed away Sunday December 22, 2024. He was born February 16th, 1937, to the late Ralph Austin and Hermina (Nee Hoertel) Layton, Sr.
Jim served overseas in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He returned with an Honorable Discharge and received the Good Conduct Medal.
Jim was an avid hunter and fishermen whom expanded this hobby into hand crafting of leather sheaths for knives, and various other items. The friendships he developed in this hobby were very dear to him.
His sense of humor and laughter was enjoyed by all those that knew him well. Family members would frequently hear the phrase, "and another damn thing" while catching up on worldly events. He was loved dearly.
Jim is survived by one niece, Lynne Layton Walter, and three nephews: Doug Layton, Jeff Layton, and Mike Layton.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ralph Austin Layton Jr and Robert Duval Layton, and one niece Karen Ann Layton.
