Erma Jean Cooley

Jean Anderson Cooley, 96, of Friendship, died Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Hill View Retirement Center where she was a resident. She was born March 21, 1924, to Clyde (Sr.) and Ruth (Lybrook) Anderson of Friendship. Jean was a graduate of Washington Rural High School (now Portsmouth West) and Portsmouth Interstate Business College. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Clyde Anderson, Jr., her sister, Eva Anderson Davis, and her husband, Ralph E. Cooley whom she married in 1946. She was employed as a secretary by several financial firms in Portsmouth, was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, and a charter member of its United Methodist Women. She was a volunteer for many years at the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. She is survived by her daughter Janice (Bard) Suverkrop of Portsmouth, nieces Leanne (Doug) Stites of Pottersville, Michigan; Sharon (Lee) Gifford of Columbus, Ohio; Cathy (Dave) Norman of Friendship; two nephews, Jeffrey Davis of Portsmouth: John (Melinda) Davis of Piketon, and several great nieces and nephews including a special great nephew, Chris (Angie) Norman of Friendship. She is also survived by her lifelong friends, Bernstein Folsom of Portsmouth and Betty Morgan of Portsmouth. At Jean's request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 18th, 2020 @ 2:00 PM all at McKendree Cemetery, US52, Buena Vista, Scioto County, Ohio 45684, with Reverend Greg Carter officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice. F.C.
