Dan F Sater

Dan Frederick Sater, 85, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on March 24, 2021 at 6:20 a.m., in the arms of his loving wife, Marilyn Colllier Sater, at Hope Hospice, Lehigh Acres, Florida after suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s. Dan was born to Fred Elsworth Sater and Elva Hixon Sater on December 18, 1935 in Lancaster, Ohio. He attended Lancaster High School, Lancaster, Ohio his freshman and sophomore years and Berne Union High School, Sugar Grove, Ohio his junior and senior years. Dan played varsity basketball all four years of high school as well as football his junior year and baseball throughout his youth. He graduated from Bliss Business College, Columbus, Ohio with an Associate degree in Business. Dan worked in the finance world for most of his career in lending and banking and retired from Barnett Bank at the early age of 55 in 1990 in the role of Vice President of Installment Loans in Vero Beach, Florida. At one point, his dream of owning his own restaurant was actualized and he opened “Aunt Cleo’s” in Cape Coral, Florida, in 1977, where the entire family worked for a short season with GranGran’s homemade recipes acclaiming wide success. On February 13th, 1960, Dan married Marilyn Collier Sater, the love of his life, who survives him. Dan is survived by his sister Dolores “Darlene” McMahon. He is also survived by his namesake Dan F. Sater, II, and his wife Debra “Debbie” Sue Bell Sater; daughter Kelly Ann Sater Reed, daughter Kimberly Dolores Sater Hopkins and her husband Kip Carlton Hopkins. Grandchildren: Jennifer Kim (Robert) Garrard, Danielle Joyce Sater, Dan Curtis (Alyssa) Reed, Tyler David (Kaitlyn) Leach, Victoria Megan (Brandon) Chaplain, Lindsey Anne (William “Trey” III) Krutky, and Kaleb Michael Hopkins. Great-grandchildren: William Ignatius Krutky IV, Amelia Joy Reed, Hudson Tate Krutky, and Blake Everly Leach. He is also survived by many in-laws, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, great-great-nephews and -nieces, and many generations of cousins. With his wife, Marilyn, being one of nine children and his sister Darlene birthing six of her own – his family is HUGE! Plus he loved his dogs growing up and all his grand-pets. Dan was preceded in death by parents Fred Elsworth Sater and Elva Hixon Sater, in-laws Martin P. Collier and Mildred Cleo Fields “GranGran” Collier, brother-in-law Donald John McMahon, son-in-law Rev. Joseph Reed, nephew Michael “Mike” William McMahon. He was also preceded in death by many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephew-in-laws, niece-in-laws, and cousins. Dan loved sports, especially basketball and baseball! He never missed a UNC Tar Heels basketball game. And he could tell you all the stats for the St. Louis Cardinals. He ventured to their games in person as often as he could. He loved to sing, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and was still singing that song in his last days. More than anything, Dan loved the Lord. At 37, he rededicated his life to the Lord and followed through in believer’s baptism in Ocala, Florida. He served many churches as a deacon, greeter, offering bearer, and member of the Finance Team. He loved to listen to southern gospel and country music plus a bit of blues and jazz; loved to listen to the saxophone. He would turn up the stereo loud and shout out the lyrics. He certainly kept his family entertained with silly songs and awesome shenanigans. There was nobody that he could not make laugh. He cared deeply about all of his family members and they felt it. Two things where he needed coaching was in how to remain silent and not to eat the grandkids’ snacks. In other words, there was never a dull moment with him around and there was always food to eat. He was an awesome provider in every way. And he always had a story to tell – the greatest one being the love of God. He wanted others to know that Jesus loved them. Names were important to him. Upon meeting people for the first time, he inquired as to the person’s middle name. Often that led him in conversation with strangers to the name of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Jesus was his hero and now he gets to see Him face to face! Oh, there is great rejoicing going on today in the City of God. Dan was a handsome and adoring husband to his wife of over 61 years. They were nicknamed the “matching parents/grandparents” because they always presented themselves in coordinating apparel. Pretty much inseparable, even until death, they loved one another’s company and exemplified marriage. His kids knew of his great love for them…always pushing them to excel in whatever they did. He will forever remain “Daddy”, a squirrel lover, clown of sorts, and lover/connoisseur of chocolate. A cheerleader to his grandkids, folks knew which ones belonged to him. He was deeply proud of all of his offspring. At the end of his life, he got the privilege of becoming “G-PA” and he loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. His eldest William, not quite 3, responded when being told G-PA was going to be going to heaven, “G-PA is talking to Jesus way high up in the sky.” Heaven is sweeter today with him in it and Jesus surely has captured Daddy’s full attention as he is probably speechless before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. May this scripture resound: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7‭-‬8 ESV‬‬‬‬‬ A memorial service in Florida will be Saturday, March 27th, at 10:30 a.m. at McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33966.
