Obituary: Charles R. Maillet III

May 23, 1981-August 17, 2023

Resident of Wellston, formerly of Portsmouth

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Raymond Maillet III,

lovingly referred to as Charlie, who left us on August 17, 2023, after a brief illness, at the age of 42, towards the final frontier.

Charlie was born on May 23, 1981, with as much hair as he had at the time of his passing, which was none. Charlie loved his family. He was a beloved son, father, brother, friend, and colleague. He is survived by his father Charles "Chip" R. (Ginger) Maillet Jr., mother Mary Kale Maillet (Tom Brock), two daughters: Cassie Maillet and Zoey Maillet, two brothers: Andy Maillet (Syndi Walters), and Cory (Charlotte) Maillet, one nephew Perry Maillet, and his dear friend, companion Andrea Werner, as well as his two beloved cats Phoenix and Rogue, as well as many Aunts, Uncles, and many, many, (many), cousins.

Charlie had a love for music, and got plenty of experience with it just working at WIOI, the family radio station when he was young. But he especially loved playing it. He learned to whistle at ten months old, and when he was old enough, joined the school band. He was a natural trumpet player, and his talent only grew throughout his life. He never lost a passion for it. In high school he was first chair in the Valley High School Marching Band, a member of the All Ohio State Fair Band, participated in the Moorehead Honor Band, the Ashland Brass Band, and later, he was a member of the Marshall Honors Band, and an active member of the Portsmouth Wind Symphony Orchestra.

Charlie also had many other passions in his life. He loved to cook and grill food, and had

a particular adoration for experimentation. He also loved science and technology, was

an enthusiastic Star Trek fan. While attending Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, he enjoyed working as the head student technical director for the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. After graduating college with a degree in computer engineering he started a career at the Area Agency on Aging as an Information Technology Specialist, where he worked for 17 years. Also became his beloved Mamaw, "Bea" Maillet's, caregiver, which enabled her to live at her home for the remainder of her life.

Charlie also had a love for Legos, video games, Ohio State football, and was a rabid fan

of the Cincinnati Bengals, Who Dey, and was rarely seen without a hat, shirt, or jersey

with their logo proudly displayed.

Charlie was unique in many ways. He was a person of insight and curiosity. He was a

lover of mystery and discovery. He wanted to know the inner workings of the intricate,

and had a boundless curiosity of the future. He will always live in our hearts, and be

forever in our thoughts. His name will continue to be on our lips as we speak of our

lives, past and future. He will never be forgotten, and will always be missed.

Come help celebrate Charlie's life on Friday August 25, 2023, 4:30-6:30 PM at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to share stories around 6:00 PM.

Attendees are requested to wear black and orange in honor of Charlie's love for the

Bengals, and that no one wear a suit because he hated wearing them himself.
