FC Daehler Mortuary

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Bruce Stephen "Steve" Shaffer, who famously cast his lines into the waters of life, reeling in memories and stories that will last a lifetime. He passed away on January 6, 2025 in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Steve was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on a warm summer day in August to his parents, Jesse Shaffer and Opal (Nee Bain) Lawrence, forever connecting the sun's warmth with shared laughter and love.

Steve was not just your ordinary guy; he was a well-known figure around the Virginia area, praised for his catfishing expertise. He spent countless hours on the water, his heart beating in rhythm with the rippling waves as he pursued his passion. Yet, Steve's calling extended beyond fishing. He dedicated over a decade of his life as an EMT paramedic in West Virginia, riding the waves of urgent calls, always the first to jump in and lend a hand. Later, he transitioned to being a Sleep Technician at Carilion Hospital in Radford, Virginia, bringing care and comfort to those in need.

He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Amber (Akil) Brown of South Point, OH, and Terra White of Radford, VA, step daughter Casi Dulaney and his friend and former spouse, Patricia Shaffer of Christiansburg, VA, and two grandsons: Jordan Perry and Alan Christian both of South Point, OH, nephew Dana Shaffer, Jr. and sister in law, Lorie Shaffer. Together, they created a tapestry of memories, each thread filled with love, laughter, and the cherished moments that define a life well-lived.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Shaffer and Opal (Nee Bain) Lawrence, and brothers: Dana, Sr. and Jay Shaffer.

As we bid him farewell, let us remember the man who found solace in the rivers and joy in the connections he made, the one whose spirit will forever linger like a gentle breeze over tranquil waters. Rest easy, Steve-you will be missed but never forgotten.
