Betty Irene Grandin, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Dry Run on October 29, 2023. She was born May 19, 1931, on Wolf Run in West Portsmouth to Brady Howard and Rosa Bell Hall Howard. She attended Upper Dry Run Grade School, Portsmouth West High School and later obtained her GED and in her later years attended Shawnee State Community College. She was a retired nurse aide who enjoyed traveling, fishing, any needlework, and reading. She especially enjoyed the V. C. Andrews collection. She also enjoyed music and dancing the jitterbug, in her swing-tailed skirt and bobby socks, along with her cousins.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert Lee Adkins, her brothers: Oscar, Willie and Raymond Hopkins, and Brady Howard Jr., "baby brother" George Hall and her uncle, Lundy Hall.

 

She is survived by her husband, George, whom she married on July 5, 1961. They had recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Also surviving is her daughter and son in law Rhea Adkins and Donald Estep of West Portsmouth.

 

Betty was grandma to nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time. A memorial will be held at a later date.
